A place to write down your funeral wishes and the practical things your family will need, choose photos and videos, and leave messages for the people you love. It all stays private while you’re alive.

When you die, the people you chose as keyholders confirm it, and Lovely Day shares what you left with the right people.

No. Your funeral wishes guide your family and your funeral director, but they aren’t a legal document, and they don’t replace a will. If something must be legally binding, put it in your will. Your practical things can say where your will is kept.

Yes: on an iPhone, on an Android phone, and in a web browser. Once you’ve signed in, your plan is the same on each.

Adding photos, videos and papers needs the app on a phone, with iOS 16 or Android 10 or later. They’re prepared on the phone before they’re sent.

With your email address. Each time, we email you a six-digit code to enter. There’s no password to remember or lose.

Not to write your plan. It’s saved on the phone or computer you’re using, and sent to Lovely Day when you’re next online. Adding photos and videos, and recording messages, need a connection to send them.

In a web browser, it’s saved in that browser. In a private window, anything not yet sent is lost when you close the window.

Someone you trust to tell Lovely Day when you’ve died. They’re usually close family or friends: people who’ll know quickly, and whom we can reach by email.

Nothing is shared on one person’s word. Two keyholders have to confirm it.

At least two, who have accepted. Three is better, so your plan still works if one can’t help. You can have up to five.

Only that they’re one of your keyholders. They can’t see your plan, your photos or your messages. Nothing is shared with them until your death is confirmed.

No, never. Each message goes only to the person it’s for.

Often they’re the same person, but they don’t have to be. Keyholders act in the first hours and days; an executor deals with the estate over months. If your executor is a solicitor or a trustee company, choose family or friends as keyholders.

If your executor isn’t a keyholder, the Keyholders screen offers to add them.

1. One of your keyholders tells us, and a second one confirms it.
2. We email you, in case it’s a mistake, and wait 48 hours.
3. If we don’t hear from you, we send your funeral wishes and the practical things to your keyholders.

If you’re alive, tap “I’m still here” in the app, or use the link in the email we send you, within the 48 hours. Nothing is shared.

A keyholder can also take back their report, and one report on its own never shares anything.

Funerals often happen within a week, and sometimes much sooner. A longer wait would mean your wishes arrive after the funeral.

An email with a private link to your funeral wishes and practical things, with what’s urgent first. It also has your funeral papers, the photo for the order of service, the slideshow, and the photos for the family.

The link works for a year, and the page can be printed or saved as a PDF. Soon after, they get a copy of everything to keep.

It doesn’t include your messages, or who you asked not to invite or not to speak.

Later than your funeral wishes. Messages wait until your death has been officially registered and Lovely Day has checked it. A message with a date waits for that date too, even if it’s years away.

Your keyholders send us the death certificate, or the funeral director’s confirmation, from the same page that shows your wishes. Someone at Lovely Day looks at it. Until then nothing is sent, and there’s no hurry: nothing is lost by waiting.

Each person gets an email with a private link to their message. Nobody else sees it. If you leave someone several messages, the ones due at the same time arrive in one email, each with its own link.

Through one of your keyholders. On the page with your wishes, a keyholder enters the funeral director’s email address, and the funeral director gets their own link.

Lovely Day doesn’t contact funeral directors itself. Most people choose one after a death, and some funerals don’t involve one.

What’s needed to arrange the funeral: the service, the music and readings, who to invite, who’s to speak and who you’d rather didn’t, the pallbearers, any prepaid funeral, the order of service photo, the slideshow and your funeral papers.

Not your pets, your estate, the family’s photos or the copy to keep. Their link works for 90 days, and a keyholder can stop it at any time.

Your keyholders, and your funeral director once a keyholder sends them their link. Nobody on those lists is ever contacted, and they’re left out of the copy the family keeps.

Keyholders are asked not to forward their own link, because it shows everything.

Photos and videos often hold hidden details, such as where they were taken. The app makes a clean copy on your phone and sends only that, so where they were taken never reaches Lovely Day.

With Amazon Web Services in Sydney, Australia, encrypted where it’s stored.

It isn’t end-to-end encrypted: Lovely Day’s systems can read it, as they must to send it to the right people when the time comes.

Yes. In Settings, choose “Make my copy”. We’ll email you a link to one file with everything, your messages included. It opens without Lovely Day or the internet.

The link works for 7 days. Then the file is deleted.

In Settings, in the app or on the web, choose “Delete my account”. We sign you out everywhere and email you. A week later we delete your account and everything in it: your funeral wishes and practical things, your keyholders, your messages, and your photos, videos and papers. Once it’s done, we tell your keyholders.

If you change your mind, sign in again within the week and your account stays as it is. After that it can’t be brought back, so you might make your copy first. Our backups are kept for 14 days, so it’s gone from those 14 days later.

A choice in Settings, off unless you turn it on. Like a time capsule: if you agree, 100 years after your death Lovely Day will make your story public, so people in the future can know who you were.

It would include your funeral wishes, your messages, and your photos, videos and voice recordings. Never your practical things, funeral papers or keyholders, or anyone’s email address or phone number. You can turn it off at any time while you’re alive.

Messages for after: video, voice and letters. 100 photos and a slideshow for the service, 60 minutes of video, 300 minutes of audio and 200 MB of funeral papers.

You pay once, here on the website or in the app. There’s nothing more to pay.

Where you pay doesn’t matter. The plan belongs to your account, so if you buy it on the website you can still use the iPhone and Android apps, and if you buy it on one phone it works on the other. Sign in with the same email address everywhere and it follows you.

For as long as you have your account, and for at least 5 years after your death. A message dated later stays for at least 5 years after it’s sent.

Each message’s email says the date its link works until, and the person can save a copy to keep for good.
